Collecting autographs is one of the more popular collections that people maintain. There are many reasons for this, one is a concrete evidence of being in close proximity to a celebrity another is a sense of nostalgia for the past. Given the love of celebrity that many Americans have, it is highly unlikely that this sort of collecting will go away any time soon. Every special interest is a breeding ground for fans and autographs, and there is no limit to this type of collection.

The most important thing to remember here is to be polite and asking nicely for what you want will always get you farther than a rude demand. Another popular way to collect autographs is through the mail. This is a very popular way to obtain autographs, since it usually does not cost much more than a postage stamp. The best way to ensure success is to write a request letter that is likely to be read. If it's handwritten, it must be neat and legible. Personalize your letter and do not send a generic form letter to everyone, and make sure to ask for an autographed photo directly and in all caps, if necessary. Most important of all, include your mailing address. Some experts recommend enclosing a self addressed stamped envelope to increase your chances. Find the best place to send your request. Sports players or athletes can often be reached at the address of the team, which is available to the public. Television starts are easily reachable by writing to the network on which their most current show is being broadcast. Musicians can be reached at their record label, and you can find that information on their latest CD or web page. Finally, authors and writers can be found through their publishing house. Check printed books or search online to find that information. Remember to be patient after you send your request. Famous people receive a lot of mail that needs to be gone through, and it can sometimes take awhile. You can also purchase autographs through collectible sources: live auctions, estate sales, and even online dealers. It is especially important to have a third party certify that the autograph is real, because this is an area of collecting in which fraud is rampant. Just having the owner or dealer certify its authenticity is not enough! There are certified third party experts that will determine if the product is worth the price. |
