Collecting Beanie Babies
If you try to remember back when you were a kid and you received your first beanie baby, it was probably one of the happiest days of your life up to that point. As children, we all played with beanie babies. We cherished them, gave them names and brought them everywhere we went. Times have changed and beanie babies are no longer what they used to be, having been phased out with the likes of Barbie and Bratz dolls. Since beanie babies are a rarer sight now, they are starting to become collectible. |

As the beanie baby fad died out, many people simply got rid of theirs. Whether this meant Fido got a new chew toy, or it simply went out into the dumpster, millions were disposed of when it was no longer "in" to have beanie babies. However, there still remained an interest in them by certain people, and eventually they started to become a collectors item. It is common today for some of the most popular beanie babies to be priced at well over $3000.
One of the best places to purchase collectible beanie babies is at real auctions (when I say "real", I mean live, not online) and online stores such as Amazon. The reason I don't recommend purchasing from online auction sites is because you can never trust the seller to actually produce a genuine collectable beanie baby. Most of the time, you are purchasing from a total stranger who themselves has little idea what they've got. When you purchase at live auctions, you can see the item up close, and they may have experts there to validate the authenticity of the item. There are a number of valuable beanie babies that collectors seek out. Below you will find the 10 most valuable beanie babies. 10. Spot the Dog - there are only about 1500 left in circulation, with the average price about $1900. 9. Peking Panda - Valuables because the eyes were made from felt instead of black beads, average price is $2000. 8. Quacker - This one has no wings, which makes it valuable, average price about $2000. Only 780 ever made it to the public. 7. Humphrey the Camel - About 25,000 remain, but average price is $2000. 6. Derby the Fine Mane Horse - The original derby horse had 20 strands of hair, but was later changed to 8 to save costs. The one with 20 strands of hair is much more collectible, netting an average price of $2200. 5. Teddy - Sometimes called the "Victorian Teddy Bear", with an average price of about $2800. 4. Brownie the Brown Bear - One of the original nine beanie babies, average price $3600. 3. Pinchers the Lobster - Due to a misspelling, his name was originally "Punchers" the lobster. This was later changed, and Punchers the Lobster is a very collectible item, average price of $2800. 2. Nana the Monkey - One of the earliest beanie babies ever released, was later re-released as Bongo, average price about $4000. 1. Number one on the list belongs to Peanut the Royal Blue Elephant. It is one of the most sought after and collected beanie babies in the world. Average price is about $4500. |
