Antique Bottles
When you see an old beer bottle or pop bottle, you probably think nothing of its value. While this assumption would be correct in most situations, there are certain bottles which are considered antique and collectable, and therefore worth a lot of money. While many people could care less about bottles, there are a select few who will go through great pains to get their hands on antique bottles. These individuals are bottle collectors. There are only a few ways to obtain bottles. |

Digging is not a very popular method for obtaining bottles, but it is the most direct. The basic premise involves you and a group of friends going to an area with a lot of garbage (dump, river, sewage area) and simply digging for treasure (the bottles). This can be great fun for the entire family and can be very exhilarating if you happen to uncover a valuable bottle. There are laws in some states that prohibit digging in certain areas, so make sure you check with your local laws before digging.
Purchasing bottles online is an option, but not one that is highly recommended. Be careful when using online auction sites for a couple of very good reasons. First, you don't actually know what you're purchasing until you get it (if you get it) in the mail. People can and will lie quite often online to rip you off. Second, scams surprisingly do happen during online auctions, despite the belief that they don't. Live auctions are where you are going to want to do most of your bottle purchasing. Live auctions are recommended for a few reasons. First, you can be sure the item you are purchasing is authentic and real. There are often experts at the auction who can authenticate the bottles that are for sale. Second, you can see the item before you purchase it. This is great because you can look at the bottle up close before putting any money on it. The final reason why live auctions are superior is because of the price. You can often purchase bottles here cheaper than you could online. The best way to find antique auctions in your area is to perform a quick search on AuctionZip.com. You would be surprised at the amount of antique auction that take place each day in America. Maybe you aren't interested in bottle collecting, but you believe that you have a rare and valuable bottle. There are a few ways to find out if it is a collectible or not. The best way is to take it to a professional appraiser who will be able to determine if the bottle is rare or not. You can also do some examination yourself to see if the bottle is rare, although this is generally not recommended as you probably don't know what to look for. |
